130th quarter

The historic 130th quarter of the city, the Irkutsk Sloboda, was reconstructed. This is the area of historic buildings: the first wooden houses appeared here at the beginning of the 18th century.

The new urban space is formed on the basis of the existing architectural and historical heritage. Sloboda has become Irkutsk's cultural and tourist hotspot, a place for the residents and visitors of the city to rest. Wooden houses with historical value have been restored, and the lost ones are being restored. The Irkutsk Sloboda has blacksmith and pottery workshops, souvenir shops, cafes, art galleries and cultural centers. There's the House of Music of the world-famous pianist, Irkutsk's own Denis Matsuev, whose life and work is closely connected with Irkutsk and Baikal.

Irkutsk Sloboda is connected with the N.M. Zagursky Irkutsk musical theater by a bridge crossing, so that the musical theater became an integral part of the 130th quarter. Bicycle paths are laid along the territory of the quarter. It's planned to restore the monument of the triumphal architecture of the 19th century, the famous Amur Gate, located at the Overseas Outpost, where the road to Baikal started. The dilapidated monument was demolished after 1920.

The residents of Irkutsk immediately fell in love with the Irkutsk Sloboda. This place has a special tourist attraction, like a tourist magnet surrounded by an incomparable romantic charisma.
