Tunka Valley
The Tunka Valley is a system of intermountain depressions of tectonic origin in the Eastern Sayan Mountains in Buryatia and the Irkutsk Region, bounded from the southeast by the Khamar-Daban ranges.
The Tunka basin is a continuation to the west of the Baikal rift zone. Its length from east to west is 190 km.
In 1991, in order to protect and organize the recreational use of intact and diverse ecosystems of the Tunka basin (from steppes to mountain tundra), the Tunka National park was established.
